The Artemis II was successfully launched on April 1 from Launch Complex 39B at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Artemis II is a historic mission, marking the first crewed deep-space flight in over 50 years and is expected to set the record for the farthest distance humans have travelled from Earth.
The Artemis II is crewed by Reid Wiseman, Commander; Victor Glover, Pilot and the first Black astronaut to journey a lunar mission; Christina Koch, Mission Specialist and the first woman to travel beyond low Earth orbit (LEO); and Jeremy Hansen, Mission Specialist and the first Canadian and first non-American to travel to deep space.
Jared Isaacman, NASA Administrator, shared that the crew is “safe, they’re secure, and they’re in great spirits,” alongside that “after a brief 54-year intermission, NASA is back in the business of sending astronauts to the Moon.”
The 10-day Artemis II mission is set to orbit the Moon and is carried by the Orion spacecraft that launched from NASA’s new heavy-lift rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS). Aboard the spacecraft were also four cubesats, which have successfully deployed: TACHELES from German space agency DLR, ATENEA from Argentina’s space agency CONAE, K-RadCube from Korea Aerospace Administration, and Space Weather CubeSat-1 from the Saudi Space Agency.
VPT is proud to share that our DC-DC converters are on board for this historic mission. Congratulations to all of the teams supporting Artemis II.
