NASA successfully  launched its Imaging X-Ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) into space. The IXPE space observatory consist of three telescopes designed to measure the polarization of cosmic X-rays. It will enable NASA to study some of the most extreme objects in the universe like black holes and exploding stars. This mission is a collaboration between NASA, the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and other contributing partners.

Cosmic objects such as black stars, neutron stars, pulsars, and supernovas emit high energy radiation which can be polarized. The first program of its kind, the IXPE will be able to provide insights into the high temperature environments these objects were created in by studying this polarization, furthering NASA’s objective to discover how the universe works. This mission will last two years, with the first year dedicated to studying dozens of celestial objects, with the second being used for follow-up observations.

VPT congratulates NASA, ASI, and all their partners on the successful launch of this mission. With parts on board, we are honored to be involved with this program and its current and future success.
