Wide Input Voltage Range Rad Hard DC-DC Converters for Space

November 30, 2017 –  Today VPT announced that its SVR Series isolated DC-DC converters now offer an 18 to 40 V input range. The radiation-hardened SVR series of DC-DC converters is available in single and dual outputs and has been characterized to Total Ionizing Dose (TID) to 100 krad(Si), including Enhanced Low Dose Rate Sensitivity (ELDRS), and Single Event Effects (SEE) performance to 85 MeV-cm2/mg.

All SVR Series isolated DC-DC converters from VPT feature a wide input voltage range of 18 to 40, with a 50 V transient operation. The SVR Series isolated converters are highly efficient and utilize VPT’s proprietary radiation immune magnetic feedback technology. Features of the series include input undervoltage lockout, output soft start, current limit and short circuit protection. Additionally, the SVR Series is rated for full power operation up to 125° C.

VPT Introduces SVRSA Series of 6W Output Radiation Hardened DC-DC Converters

October 25, 2107 – Today VPT released its single and dual output SVRSA DC-DC converters to further expand its offering of radiation hardened high-reliability space products. Specifically designed for the harsh radiation environment facing space applications, the SVRSA Series has been characterized to Total Ionizing Dose (TID) to 100 krad(Si), including Enhanced Low Dose Rate Sensitivity (ELDRS), and Single Event Effects (SEE) performance to 85 MeV-cm2/mg.

The SVRSA 6W output series offers a wide input voltage range of 18 to 40V, plus 50V transient operation, and is available in single output voltages of 3.3, 5, 12 and 15V and dual output voltages of ±5, ±12 and ±15V. The series topology is an isolated single-output flyback converter featuring VPT’s proprietary radiation immune magnetic feedback technology. Features of the SVRSA Series include input undervoltage lockout, output soft start, current limit and short circuit protection, and is rated for full power operation up to 125° C.

VPT Expands its VXR High-Reliability Line

BLACKSBURG, VA, June 6, 2017 – VPT, Inc. Optimized for a broad range of programs from military ground vehicles to commercial and military aircraft, the VXR Series products feature wide input voltage ranges and advanced packaging technology for superior operation in harsh environments. The VXR Series now includes both single and dual output offerings from 7 Watts to 100 Watts as well as 2 to 20 Amp EMI filters.

The VXR Series dual output DC-DC converters feature two independently controlled and isolated outputs which provide zero cross-regulation. Each output can be configured as positive, negative or stacked allowing for a broad range of output voltage configurations.  Additionally, the output voltages can be ordered as unmatched pairs as a standard product option providing a vast range of flexibility within an overall power system design.

VPT Releases High Temperature Product Line

HTD Series Hybrid DC-DC Converters Designed for Extreme Environments up to 185°C

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – May 10, 2016 – VPT, Inc. (VPT®), a HEICO company (NYSE:HEI.A) (NYSE:HEI), released the HTD Series of DC-DC converters at the iMAPS International Conference on High Temperature Electronics, HiTEC 2016. The HTD Series of DC-DC converters, leveraging VPT’s high reliability power supply design heritage, is specifically designed for harsh and extreme temperature environments including downhole oil and gas, MWD/LWD and wireline logging tools, aircraft engine electronics and other industrial applications requiring reliable operation in high temperatures.

The HTD isolated 1.5 Watt DC-DC converter operates from -55°C to 155°C and the HTD non-isolated DC-DC converters operate from -55°C to 185°C. Each model has dual outputs and is designed using thick film hybrid microcircuit technology, bare semiconductor die integrated with passive components and thick film conductors
on a ceramic substrate. Within the HTD design, component-attach and die bonding are optimized for high temperature life, and hermetic metal packaging protects internal components for long-term reliability.

U.S. Export Reform Provides Boost to Space Industry Internationally

VPT Space Qualified, Radiation Hardened DC-DC Converters Now Available Globally with Significantly Reduced Export Restrictions  

BLACKSBURG, VA, September 17, 2014 – Recent changes to U.S. Export Administration Regulations have meant that VPT® Inc., a HEICO company (NYSE:HEI.A) (NYSE:HEI), has been able to make available its radiation hardened, space qualified electronics parts to non-embargoed international markets without ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) export restrictions.

VPT’s high-reliability DC-DC converters and accessory products are used by the most prominent global aerospace and space organizations, including NASA, Boeing, BAE Systems, European Space Agency (ESA), and The Airbus Group. Its 30krad SV Series of space qualified products that were previously controlled through ITAR are now classified as EAR99 and eligible for export without an export license. Additionally, its 100krad SVR Series of space qualified products are now assigned under the Export Control Classification Number 9A515e. With few exceptions, this classification allows for export to 36 countries including France, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, and Japan without an export license (EAR §742.6).

VPT’s SVR Series products were developed specifically for the most extreme requirements of space systems.

The SVR Series, which includes 24 modules in seven product families, is suited for use in LEO, MEO, GEO, deep space and launch vehicle programs and was initially introduced in May, 2013. SVR Series products feature maximum levels of radiation hardening with a Total Ionizing Dose (TID) of 100 krad(Si) and SEE of 85 MeV-cm2/mg. The SVR Series is based on space-proven heritage designs and available qualified to MIL-PRF-38534 Class H and Class K.  These are the first power conversion products commercially available that are designed and manufactured in accordance with Aerospace Corporation’s Technical Operating Report (TOR) requirements for space power systems.

VPT Adds 15 Amp Point of Load DC-DC Converter to Space Family of Power Conversion Products

VPT is the only manufacturer to now offer two point of load converters that are MIL-PRF-38534 Class H and Class K Qualified, 100K rad hard, and available off-the-shelf.

BLACKSBURG, VA, May 8, 2012 – VPT Inc., a HEICO company (NYSE:HEI.A) (NYSE:HEI), announced today the availability
of a new point of load power converter designed and manufactured for use in the extreme environment of space. The new SVGA0515 Series point of load DC-DC converter is now qualified to MIL-PRF-38534 Class H and Class K by the Defense Logistics Agency.  The SVGA delivers up to 50W of output power, is radiation hardened to 100 krads (Si) including Enhanced Low Dose Rate Sensitivity (ELDRS), and is characterized to SEE of 85 MeV-cm2/mg.

The SVGA Series is the latest addition to VPT’s existing line of space DC-DC converters. The SVGA functions as a non-isolated,
regulated buck converter that steps down the voltage at the point of use in a distributed power system. From a single, small size, high current package, this module saves significant board space, weight, and cost for power systems headed for LEO, MEO, GEO, and deep space missions.

“To reduce weight and component cost, distributed power systems are relying more on smaller, less expensive point of load
converters used in conjunction with the larger, traditional, isolated DC-DC converters. VPT Breaks Ground for New Headquarters in Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center

BLACKSBURG, VA, April 17, 2012 – VPT Inc., a HEICO company (NYSE:HEI.A) (NYSE:HEI), recently broke ground on a new headquarters facility  in Blacksburg Virginia. The new facility will serve as VPT’s research and development center and will be located in the award-winning office park, the  Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.

““We are pleased to be expanding into this state-of-the-art research facility,” said Dr. Dan Sable, President of VPT. “We’ve grown appreciably over the last several years and the time is right to invest in the next phase of our corporate success.  The new facility will offer several new amenities to enhance our R&D capabilities as we continue to develop new power conversion technologies for the avionics, military, and space markets.””

VPT anticipates moving to the new location in the fourth quarter of this year.  The move will not affect VPT’s manufacturing operations, which are located in a separate facility.

VPT’’s SV Series of Rad Hard DC-DC Power Converters Now Listed on Standard Microcircuit Drawings

VPT’’s rad hard SV Series of DC-DC converters are manufactured to MIL-PRF-38534 Class K, the highest level for products used in space environments. These products are suited for use in a wide variety of space applications including low Earth orbit (LEO) systems, geosynchronous Earth orbit (GEO) systems, deep space probes, and other demanding applications.
