VPT Supports Virgina Tech Space Science and Engineering Program with 4th Donation

Check presentation to Virginia Tech with Dr. Dan Sable and John Hodock of VPTJuly 1, 2013 – VPT recently provided its fourth $15,000 donation to Virginia Tech’s Space Science and Engineering Program.

Virginia Tech’s Center for Space Science and Engineering Research, which has grown into a nationally recognized research center, was initially created with a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

VPT’s CEO, Dr. Dan Sable (pictured on the left), has served as the chairman of the Virginia Tech Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Industrial Advisory Board where he was instrumental in founding the Space Science and Engineering Research program at Virginia Tech.  Congratulations Space@VT Program!

New Standard Output Voltages Now Available on the VPT30 Series of DC-DC Converters

April 18, 2013 — VPT has added new standard output voltage configurations to its VPT30 Series of triple output DC-DC converters.  The new output configurations now include:

  • VPT30-283R3512T  – Output configuration 3.3/5/12V
  • VPT30-283R3515T – Output configuration 3.3/5/15V
  • VPT30-285512T – Output configuration 5/5/12V
  • VPT30-285515T – Output configuration 5/5/15V
  • VPT30-283R31215T – Output configuration 3.3/12/15V
  • VPT30-2851215T – Output configuration 5/12/15V

Previous standard output configurations offered included:

  • 3.3V/12V/12V
  • 3.3V/15V/15V
  •  5V/12V/12V

The VPT30 is a new triple output DC-DC converter uniquely designed to power electronics in military vehicles, ships, weapons, and other rugged systems. Delivering up to 30 watts, the new VPT30-2800T DC-DC converter meets several military standards and features three outputs, enabling engineers to power multiple loads from a single, small, cost-saving module.

VPT Space Products Profiled in a New Book By NASA

February 13, 2012 – VPT’s line of space DC-DC converters were recently profiled in a new book written by NASA, Spinoff. The article details the history of a grant from NASA which enabled VPT to research, design, and develop a line of DC-DC converters for space that address the challenges and requirements of today’s space applications.

Spinoff 2012 presents remarkable examples of spinoffs providing benefits around the world—saving lives, creating jobs, preserving resources, and more. The NASA Spinoff book offers 204 pages highlighting the many different technologies that NASA has transferred to private sector.  The Agency distributes copies to politicians, economic  decision makers, company CEOs, academics, professionals in technology transfer, the news media, and the general public.

VPT Receives Exceptional Supplier Award from L-3 Communications

June 19, 2012 – VPT was recently honored with an “Exceptional Supplier” award for “Quality and Delivery Performance,”  from L-3 Communications. This award was based on an extensive review of VPT from the L-3 CSW Quality, Operations Management, and Supply Chain Management departments. VPT was among a small group of companies to receive this prestigious award.

This is the second consecutive year that VPT has received an award from L-3 Communications.

Venus Express, Powered by VPT, Taking Measurements During Historic Transit

June 6, 2012 – It is getting cosmic around here! VPT is powering systems on ESA’s Venus Express, launched in 2005. Yesterday and today this spacecraft was busy taking measurements during the transit of Venus across the Sun.

According to the Venus Express blog, the spacecraft orbiting Venus is measuring sunlight as it filters through Venus’ atmosphere, revealing the concentration of different gas molecules at different altitudes. Simultaneous ground-based measurements will be compared with Venus Express data to test techniques use to characterize rocky Earth-size planets.

SpaceX Falcon 9, Dragon Mission Reaches ISS Successfully with Power by VPT

May 29, 2012 – Last week  Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) successfully launched its Falcon 9 rocket carrying a Dragon spacecraft bound for the International Space Station (ISS). After orbiting, the Dragon capsule successfully attached to the ISS to deliver food and supplies to the astronauts stationed there.

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) made history when its Dragon spacecraft became the first commercial vehicle in history to successfully attach to the International Space Station.  Previously only four governments  – the United States, Russia, Japan and the European Space Agency  – had achieved this challenging technical feat.

VPT is proud to be a part of the excitement, powering a variety of environmental, antenna, and safety controls on board both the Falcon 9 rocket and the Dragon space capsule.

DVMSA EMI Filter Now Qualified by DLA

VPT’s DVMSA 0.8A EMI filter is now qualified by the United States Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) with a Land and Maritime drawing, #11016.

The DVMSA EMI filter provides 60dB noise rejection in a low profile (0.270″), light weight (15g), hermetic package.

Russian Space Research Institute Thanks VPT

VPT recently received a letter from the Russian Space Research Institute recognizing VPT’s contribution to the development of the Lunar Exploration Neutron Detector (LEND) for NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), launched in 2009.

In a letter, the Institute said, “Due to perfect cooperation with your company, the flight-quality secondary power converters made by VPT were delivered to us in the shortest terms possible at our special request and then they were successfully and timely integrated into the instrument having passed all the testing procedures.”

The letter went on to praise VPT with “Since the start of the LRO mission on June 19, 2009, the LEND instrument has been successfully operating as part of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter which proves high technical performance and reliability of your company’s products.”

The LEND instrument provided a unique dataset on hydrogen abundance in the lunar soil, and this data is already used by the scientific community worldwide to plan further manned missions to the Moon.
