Virginia State Leaders Visit VPT

April 13, 2016- We are proud to have hosted a headquarters facility visit from respected state leaders today. Virginia House Delegate Terry Austin, Virginia Secretary of Commerce Maurice Jones, and Director of the Virginia Space Grant Consortium Mary Sandy met with VPT’s CEO Dr. Dan Sable, Director of Engineering Leonard Leslie, as well as Shawn Graham, VPT’s Chief Operations Officer and Executive Director of Quality.

The Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) is a coalition of five Virginia colleges and universities, NASA, state educational agencies, Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology, and other institutions representing diverse aerospace education and research. Headquartered on the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center campus, VPT has long supported aerospace engineering educational efforts in the state, and we are grateful to be able to contribute to the growth of the aerospace industry as a whole.

VPT Supports Virginia Tech’s Electrical & Computer Engineering Department With Donation to AMP Lab

November 12, 2015 – VPT recently provided a $25,000 donation to Virginia Tech’s Electrical & Computer Engineering Department in support of its Autonomous Mastery Prototyping Lab (AMP Lab).

The AMP Lab offers a creative, practical, hands-on learning environment for Electrical and Computer Engineering students, staff, and faculty at Virginia Tech. In addition to fostering mentorship for undergraduates, the AMP Lab offers programs in circuit design, PC board layout, soldering, and lab safety.

VPT has supported the engineering programs at Virginia Tech for many years. VPT’s CEO, Dr. Dan Sable has served as the chairman of the Virginia Tech Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Industrial Advisory Board where he was instrumental in founding the Space Science and Engineering Research program. This is VPT’s fifth donation to Virginia Tech’s engineering programs.

VPT Presents at Space Tech Expo 2015

May 21, 2015 – Yesterday at Space Tech Expo in Long Beach, CA, VPT’s Senior Design Engineer Brandon Witcher presented on the topic of power challenges of modern space systems. Specifically speaking to space system processor board designers, Witcher discussed the tight regulation and multiple complex requirements involved in current data-intensive space payloads. April 29, 2015 -  Dr. Dan Sable, VPT’s CEO and Leonard Leslie, VPT’s Director of Engineering presented company updates and space product developments to the attendees of Space Parts Working Group yesterday in Torrance, CA. The Space Parts Working Group (SPWG) is sponsored by The Aerospace Corporation, in cooperation with the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) and the National Reconnaissance Office. Now in its 44th year, SPWG is an unclassified, international forum for disseminating information to the aerospace industry regarding electronic piece parts for space applications. U.S. Export Reform Provides Boost to Space Industry Internationally

VPT Space Qualified, Radiation Hardened DC-DC Converters Now Available Globally with Significantly Reduced Export Restrictions  

BLACKSBURG, VA, September 17, 2014 – Recent changes to U.S. Export Administration Regulations have meant that VPT® Inc., a HEICO company (NYSE:HEI.A) (NYSE:HEI), has been able to make available its radiation hardened, space qualified electronics parts to non-embargoed international markets without ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) export restrictions.

VPT’s high-reliability DC-DC converters and accessory products are used by the most prominent global aerospace and space organizations, including NASA, Boeing, BAE Systems, European Space Agency (ESA), and The Airbus Group. Its 30krad SV Series of space qualified products that were previously controlled through ITAR are now classified as EAR99 and eligible for export without an export license. Additionally, its 100krad SVR Series of space qualified products are now assigned under the Export Control Classification Number 9A515e. With few exceptions, this classification allows for export to 36 countries including France, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, and Japan without an export license (EAR §742.6).

Executive Director of International Sales for VPT, Malcolm Campbell, stated, “ITAR restrictions were constraining to our international customers, but the recent export control reform by the U.S. Department of Commerce enables a shift in global space program development. The space industry in the UK and other countries around the world can now benefit from VPT’s level of proven technology without the tedious process that was previously required.”

VPT Adds Radiation Lab and Test Services Facility

Expansion Represents Further Space Market Commitment

BLACKSBURG, VA, July 15, 2014 – VPT® Inc., a HEICO company (NYSE:HEI.A) (NYSE:HEI), today announces the addition of VPT Rad℠, a comprehensive radiation laboratory and test services facility, to serve the radiation and related test needs of aerospace electronics manufacturers.

The 5,000 square-foot Chelmsford, Massachusetts facility, formerly known as Si-REL, provides specialized environments and equipment for evaluating electronics used in applications where ionizing radiation can degrade device performance. VPT Rad offers turn-key solutions at both High Dose Rate (HDR) with its TID (Total Ionizing Dose) GC-200 irradiator and Low Dose Rate (LDR) Broad Beam TID irradiation for Enhanced Low Dose Rate Sensitivity (ELDRS) analysis. Additionally, the facility services the radiation needs of the biomedical manufacturing market.

The VPT Rad facility meets the requirements of MIL-STD-750 and MIL-STD-883; and has approved Source Suitability from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The facility also services radiation test needs for customers and programs outside the U.S. using European Space Components Coordination (ESCC) 22900 compliant test methods.

VPT Presents to EWCI Attendees

February 19, 2014 – VPT’s Leonard Leslie, Manager of Space Products Engineering, presented today to the attendees of the Third International Conference on Electronic Warfare (EWCI) in Bangalore, India. Official Standard Microcircuit Drawings Issued for VPT’s Entire Rad Hard DC-DC Converters and EMI Filters Series

BLACKSBURG, VA, Nov. 7, 2013 – VPT Inc., a HEICO company (NYSE:HEI.A) (NYSE:HEI), announces the release of Standard Microcircuit Drawings (SMDs) by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) for VPT’s entire SVR Series of radiation hardened DC-DC converters, point of load converters, and EMI filters. VPT’s SVR Series products were developed specifically for the most extreme requirements of space systems.

The SVR Series, which includes 24 modules in seven product families, is suited for use in LEO, MEO, GEO, deep space and launch vehicle programs and was initially introduced in May, 2013. SVR Series products feature maximum levels of radiation hardening with a Total Ionizing Dose (TID) of 100 krad(Si) and SEE of 85 MeV-cm2/mg. The SVR Series is based on space-proven heritage designs and available qualified to MIL-PRF-38534 Class H and Class K.  These are the first power conversion products commercially available that are designed and manufactured in accordance with Aerospace Corporation’s Technical Operating Report (TOR) requirements for space power systems.

About the SVR Series of Space Qualified Power Products

The SVR Series performance in space programs is guaranteed through the use of radiation hardened semiconductor components, radiation lot acceptance testing (RLAT) of non-hardened components, and analysis. The SVR Series is characterized for TID performance including ELDRS and SEE according to VPT’s DLA-approved Radiation Hardness Assurance (RHA) plan per MIL-PRF-38534, Appendix G, Level R. Characterization is performed at both the component level and at the SVR Series hybrid level.

SPACE TECH EXPO, Long Beach, CA, May 21, 2013 – Today VPT Inc., a HEICO company (NYSE:HEI.A) (NYSE:HEI), announced the availability of a new series of radiation hardened DC-DC power converters, point of load converters, and EMI filters to power space systems.

The new SVR Series of space power products includes 24 new modules in 7 product families, all based on space-proven heritage designs and available qualified to MIL-PRF-38534 Class K. These are the first power conversion products commercially available that are out-of-the-box compliant to the new Aerospace Technical Operating Report (TOR) requirements for space power systems. The new SVR Series of power products are suited for use in low Earth orbit (LEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), geostationary orbit (GEO), deep space, and launch vehicle programs.

VPT’s SVR Series also features maximum levels of radiation hardening with a Total Ionizing Dose (TID) level of 100 krad(Si). February 13, 2012 – VPT’s line of space DC-DC converters were recently profiled in a new book written by NASA, Spinoff. The article details the history of a grant from NASA which enabled VPT to research, design, and develop a line of DC-DC converters for space that address the challenges and requirements of today’s space applications.

With the SVGA Series power converters now on official DLA SMDs, engineers can procure these components quickly, easily, and with confidence of reliable performance over time in the harshest of space environments. VPT’s SVGA Series converters are available in 10A or 15A versions and are suited for use in low Earth orbit (LEO) systems, geosynchronous Earth orbit (GEO) systems, deep space probes, and other demanding space applications. With the addition of these two modules, VPT now offers more than 35 power conversion modules on DLA SMDs specifically designed for rugged duty in space.

VPT Receives Exceptional Supplier Award from L-3 Communications

June 19, 2012 – VPT was recently honored with an “Exceptional Supplier” award for “Quality and Delivery Performance,”  from L-3 Communications. This award was based on an extensive review of VPT from the L-3 CSW Quality, Operations Management, and Supply Chain Management departments. VPT was among a small group of companies to receive this prestigious award.

This is the second consecutive year that VPT has received an award from L-3 Communications.
